Homebuyer Workshop with Operation Hope

On October 31, 2015, we held a Homebuyer Workshop in partnership with Operation Hope. It was an informative event for our family partners, past Habitat applicants, and other families from our community.  All of the families received important information about the home buying process.  This included learning about down payment and closing cost assistance programs, how to find an affordable home that fits your budget and family, home inspections, reading a credit report and how to raise your score, and determining if you are ready to buy a new home.

The families were all set up with a one on one financial counseling sessions with an advisor from Operation Hope to go over their financial picture and set up a realistic budget.  At the close of each counseling session, each family earned a HUD certificate which qualifies them for home buying assistance programs.

At Habitat for Humanity-DeKalb, we are invested in helping hard working families find a way to buy an affordable home.  There are many roads that lead to that goal whether with us or another program.  The important thing is for all families to have safe, stable, and affordable housing in which all members of the family can thrive.
