The Annual Golden Hammer Award Reception was held on June 13, 2013. The event featured live music, a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and dessert. The Golden Hammer Award is given to recognize individuals and organizations that exemplify Habitat for Humanity – DeKalb’s mission of providing safe, decent and affordable housing to residents of DeKalb County and around the world. This year’s award recipients included Vaughn Irons, Brenda Pace, John Kielholtz, Jack Devos, who have all provided exceptional leadership in developing and improving affordable housing in DeKalb County. “As Habitat for Humanity founder Millard Fuller said, every person who gets sleepy at night should have a safe place to rest their heads, on terms they can afford to pay,” said Bob Boyd, Habitat for Humanity – DeKalb’s Executive Director. “People like Jack, Vaughn, John, and Brenda – they are the ones who make that possible. Perimeter Mall was also recognized for their outstanding contributions to Habitat for Humanity – DeKalb, having given over $10,000 to HFHD over the past five years in support of our programs. The award ceremony was led by Tacoma Perry of FOX 5 Atlanta, who served as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening. The event also saw presentations by local Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter representatives from Tucker High School and Dunwoody High School. Live music was provided by local favorite The Dammages, Sweet Dee’s Bakeshop provided dessert, and Growler Time Drought Beer and Wine to Go provided beverages. The event also featured a silent auction which raised several thousand dollars. “The Golden Hammer Award Reception was a tremendous success, and it was so excellent to be able to celebrate our accomplishments together. We cannot wait to invite you again next year,” said Boyd.
