Habitat Dekalb appreciates you!

Dear Friend,

On behalf of Habitat for Humanity DeKalb, I greet you with warm thoughts and words of gratitude this holiday season. Whether you are a donor, a volunteer, a homeowner, a partner, a neighbor, a community member, or a friend, Habitat for Humanity DeKalb appreciates you!

Many partner families have shared that one of the greatest joys of being in their Habitat new or repaired home is simple get-togethers where friends, neighbors and family members gather around the table to share holiday meals. Our families’ stories are possible because of your support, and we want to share a few.

Habitat Homeowner, Solomon

“As a family of soon to be 6, we were worried about finding housing that would fit our growing family’s needs. The increasing rental rates were already a burden in our two-bedroom apartment. When I learned about Habitat for Humanity DeKalb, I knew the Homeownership Program was perfect for my family and me. It was perfect because it was not a handout. We were a part of the process which made it more valuable. It was such a relief to provide a home for my family where my children have ample room to play safely in their own backyard. I was overjoyed to carry my newborn across the threshold of our new home.”

US Army Veteran, John

“I’m an 82-year-old disabled Army Veteran. I never thought I would need to ask for help; however, I’m grateful for the assistance of Habitat for Humanity DeKalb. I’m the sole caregiver for my wife, who has full-blown dementia and Alzheimer’s at age 67. I have been unable to take care of our home for 38 years like I used to. Habitat DeKalb replaced my roof, installed gutters, replaced my outdated HVAC, and repaired a non-working bathroom where my floor’s joist was rotting and sinking. I’m proud again of how my house looks on the outside and grateful for how it feels and functions inside. I don’t have to worry about leaks anymore; my air conditioner and heating work, and I don’t have to use space heaters anymore.”

Dedicated Volunteer & Retiree, Chip

“I started volunteering seriously when I retired in 2015. I know that the building and renovation work that we are doing is helping low-income residents around DeKalb County. In addition, I have learned quite a bit of construction skills from the other volunteers and staff that are out there.”

These are just a few of the stories from our community. As you know, there is an affordable housing crisis, yet, with your support we press forward. Your financial investment and dedication empower hardworking families to earn their way to homeownership and our seniors and veterans to safely age in place. We recently broke ground on a new home build and will continue to serve the 300+ seniors and veterans on our waitlist with critical repairs. Thank you very much for your compassion for the families we serve – this season and every day of the year. As you finalize your 2022 giving, please consider Habitat DeKalb – every dollar helps. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
