Home Build

Feb 14th-- Grading has been complete. This crucial step prepares us for pouring the concrete foundation.

Home Repair

Volunteers have torn down the old slippery steps and have begin build new steps that are safer for Mrs. Jacqueline to use.

The Brown Family

Tekisha lives in an apartment in Stone Mountain with her 9-year-old son, Kevin, and their three dogs, Felix, Benny and Oreo. And she has a deep appreciation for Habitat for Humanity’s work. Tekisha’s cousin lives in a Habitat for Humanity home, and she saw the positive impact that home ownership had on her cousin’s life.

So, in 2021, Tekisha applied for a home with Habitat DeKalb.

She was among 40 applicants, and just like any other homeowner, she had to meet certain criteria: In addition to demonstrating that she would be able to pay the mortgage, Tekisha, who works at Lifeline Animal Project, also had to meet Habitat for Humanity’s financial requirements. At the same time, she had to partner with the chapter, volunteering for a variety of projects.

The Arnold Family

Katie appreciates what it means to be patient.

During the pandemic, she left her job with the Department of Community Health so that she could care for her mentally challenged brother.

The job search took much longer – and was much more challenging – than she ever imagined.

During those difficult times, Katie learned about perseverance, thanks, in large part, to the three 8½ x 11 pieces of paper that hang on her bedroom wall. Filled with advice for embarking on a successful job search, the pages brighten her spirits – and serve as a reminder that good things always take longer than expected.

“No matter what you do in life, be patient. If there is something you want, work for it,” Katie says. “Pray. Be ready. Prepare yourself.”

We have the pleasure to serve Mrs. Jacqueline by providing home repairs to increase the safeness of her home. She's fallen several types leaving her home because the front steps are marble.

James

Jmaes moved into his in the 1970s with his wife and children. His home aged right alongside him. And when his wife passed a few years ago, James struggled maintaining his home. His kitchen and bathroom floor experienced rot due to plumbing leaks. In addition, his ceiling shows signs of roof leaks. In order to preserve their home, we'll need to fix the plumbing leaks and replace the flooring and roof, first and foremost.

Chiniqua

Ms. Chiniqua has been having a hard time keeping her home dry because her roof was built incorrectly. “When it really rains hard, water is coming in. You can see the outside from the crawlspace attic,” said Ms. Chiniqua. “I look for resources to help me do something. And I’m grateful you guys are here to help me.”
