Habitat DeKalb and Power Home Remodeling Team Up for Aging In Place Home Repair Project
Local Habitat for Humanity DeKalb Join Forces with Power Home Remodeling to Make a DeKalb Senior’s Home Safe, Dry, and Warm
DeKalb County, GA — On Saturday, September 24, 2024, Habitat for Humanity DeKalb is teaming up with Power Home Remodeling (“POWER”) — the nation’s leading full-service exterior home remodeler — to make a positive impact in the community. More than 25 volunteers from POWER will converge on the home of Mr. Neguse, a senior in DeKalb County, to perform much-needed exterior repairs.
Sharon Steele, Executive Director of Habitat DeKalb shared, “We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with POWER, a beacon of hope that will assist us in maximizing the limited funding we have for critical home repairs for older adults and veterans in our community. After many meaningful conversations and a thorough understanding of each other’s values and goals, we are excited about this partnership. This collaboration was established through a shared commitment to community support and improvement, and it aligns perfectly with our mission to create safe, warm, dry, and affordable housing that promises a positive impact on the lives of our older adults and the neighborhoods we serve.”
Mr. Neguse, born in Eritrea, East Africa, has been a pillar of his community since moving to Georgia he became an American Citizen in 1992. Mr. Neguse has worked tirelessly as a full-time taxi driver to support his wife, Nebiat, and their six children. Known for opening his home to newcomers seeking a fresh start, Mr. Neguse and his wife are beloved figures in their neighborhood and plan to live out their lives in their Tucker home.
Several critical repairs are needed to ensure that the Neguse family can safely age in place. Power Home Remodeling in collaboration with Habitat DeKalb in collaboration with POWER will perform:
- Roof replacement
- Water heater replacement
- Toilet replacement
- Garage weather stripping installation
- Window replacement
“We are honored to work with POWER to extend our reach and help more older adult homeowners in need, like the Neguses. Together, we look forward to making a lasting impact in our community,” said Sharon.
This support from POWER is made possible by the company’s Power for Good commitment, which gives employees a voice and choice in where philanthropic funding goes to impact causes they care about.
“At POWER, we strive to achieve the potential in every home, person, and community we serve. What inspires me most is our employees who carry out that mission every day, choosing organizations to partner with like Habitat DeKalb who share that same commitment,” said POWER’s Vice President of Community Impact, Dr. Anu Gupta. “We are proud of our colleagues from the Atlanta office who are working alongside DeKalb Habitat volunteers to transform the Neguse family home.”
